New York Apartment
In collaboration with interior designer James Andrew, we worked on developing a bespoke wallpaper design inspired by an antique hand-blocked Indian fabric.
One of the starting points for the wallpaper was this Ottoman-inspired room designed by Renzo Mongiardino.
The main design inspiration is based on this antique hand-blocked indian bedspread found by James Andrew.
Just like the fabric is made, each wall of the bedroom was to be exactly covered with a series of borders. Curtains matching the colours of the wallpaper were also created.
To begin developing the design, the fabric was scanned, and elements of each border were traced to start creating the layout.
A repeat of each border was built to develop the design.
The design went through a series of colour changes as well as possible layouts in a continuous collaboration with James Andrew. Each new layout was accompanied by multiple physical samples.
Final Layout of the bedroom. Each area has been built to match the site. Certain elements were printed separately to be fitted on site, especially around the bookcase.
